Summary of raised key points
4. 2017 BPF Gender Recap
Last year BPF participants shared both the primary outcomes and the main challenges they faced during the process. You could find the 2017 report here: https://www.intgovforum.org/documents?cid=62&fid=677
5. 2018 BPF Gender Work
Following the proposal that was approved by the MAG in May, the group started to discuss the scope of work for this year. We talked about the following aspects:
1.1. Continuing the work done in 2017 by focusing on communities from which it was not possible to gather enough information. While it is not listed on the proposal, it was suggested to focus on non-binary identities and transgender.
2.1. For studying the way that alternatives ways of connectivity - community networks, public WiFi, free basics and TV White Spaces- are impacting on women, it was suggested to narrow down the scope to two or three of them and focus on meaningful access. It was also proposed to continue working with young women.
For more information about the proposal, you can find it here: https://www.intgovforum.org/content/bpf-gender-and-access-1
6. Engagement with NRIs
Gender is widely discussed in the NRIs and they are a good place for gathering information in a bottom-up process. However, based on last year experience, there are concerns about the methodology to get that inputs that also affects BPFs for not receiving the information. In that sense, it was suggested to:
• Look at the NRIS annual reports to extract information from there;
• Join the NRI calls to share the aim of the BPF Gender this year.
7. Besides, the possibilities to organize activities during LACIGF and APrIG was mentioned.
8. Communication and promotion of the BPF
Use the @intgovforum Twitter account to promote the BPF work #BPGender2018. Example: #BPGender2018 is already meeting and gathering inputs from NRIs, gender and tech groups > Collaborate signing up to the list: https://intgovforum.org/mailman/listinfo/bp_gender_intgovforum.org
9. Write blog posts about the work that has done in previous years to promote the BPF; and Engage with other initiatives like EQUALS and W20.
10. Call for volunteers
The group decided to make a call for volunteers as soon as possible. Please find below the information to start sharing with your networks using the HT #BPGender2018.
