Description

As we approach the 20-year milestone of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) and the implementation of the Global Digital Compact (GDC), this session will focus on assessing progress and envisioning the future of digital governance. It will serve as a platform to reflect on past achievements, identify gaps, and strategize on the way forward for global digital cooperation. Discussions will emphasize the need for a multistakeholder approach, incorporating governments, private sector, civil society, and technical experts, to ensure that digital policies are inclusive and promote sustainable development. Key topics will include enhancing digital trust, fostering digital inclusion, and preparing for the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging digital technologies.

Dr. Tawfik Jelassi

Dr. Tawfik Jelassi was appointed UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information on 1st July 2021. In this position, he is responsible for the Organization’s programmes on building inclusive knowledge societies, leading digital transformation, strategizing the role of ICT in education, and fostering freedom of expression. Dr. Jelassi holds a Ph.D. doctorate in information systems from New York University (USA) and postgraduate diplomas from the University of Paris Dauphine (France). Dr.

Ms. Sally Wentworth

Ms. Sally Wentworth is an experienced leader with over two decades of work in Internet policy and governance. Peviously, she held key positions at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the U.S. Department of State.
Ms. Sally has a Master’s in International Political Economy from Claremont Graduate University and a degree in Political Science from Westmont College.

H.E. Dr. Takuo Imagawa

H.E. Dr. Takuo Imagawa is Vice Minister for Policy Coordination at Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. With over three decades of experience in ICT policy, he has held key leadership roles, including Director General of the Telecommunications Bureau. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University and has an academic background in economics and policy-making.

H.E. Mr. Shermatov Sherzod

H.E. Mr. Shermatov Sherzod is key leader in national digital transformation initiatives, focusing on enhancing ICT infrastructure and fostering innovation. Previously he served as Minister of Public Education leading initiatives to enhance the nation's educational system. He has a Master’s degree in international and development economics from Yale University, US.

Mr. Stefan Schnorr

Stefan Schnorr has extensive expertise in digital policies and infrastructure development. He adeptly balances innovation with regulatory frameworks in digital governance. Earlier, he served as Director-General for Digital and Innovation Policy at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Mr. Schnorr has a degree in Law from the University of Trier, Germany.

Ms. Nthati Moorosi

Ms. Nthati Moorosi has specialization in Communications, Public Relations, and Stakeholder Engagement. She was appointed to the current position in 2022, following her election into the National Assembly.
Ms. Moorosi has PG Diploma in Gender Studies from the University of the Free State, and Master's in Cultural and Media Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
